Game
Tembe Elephant Lodge is a Big Five game lodge within the Tembe Elephant Park near the Mozambique border. Tembe is the home of the famous Tembe elephants that used to roam freely between Mozambique and South Africa. There are also regular sightings of lion, buffalo and rhino and rarer sightings of leopard. The habitat is regarded world-wide as of exceptional conservation significance and bird-watching is world-famous. The guides are local people who have an enthusiasm for, and deep knowledge of, the bush and its animals. Lodge manager Tom Mahamba goes bird-watching on his days off.
Conference Facilities
A modern, fully equipped conference facility is situated within the Tembe Elephant Park, just a few minutes' drive away from the Tembe Elephant Lodge. This conference room can cater for up to 20 delegates.
There is a small reception area where teas, coffees and light refreshments can be served during breaks. Here, interesting items from the KwaZulu-Natal Nature conservation Services' Tembe Elephant Park are on display, such as elephant and hippo skulls and other artifacts.
Conferences are fully - catered for by the Tembe Elephant Park - either at the centre, at the lodge - or delegates may prefer a "break-away" lunch at Mahlahesa - concealed game-viewing hide situated near a waterhole favoured by the elephants.
The conference room is air-conditioned and has an overhead, screen, television, and video facilities. Flip charts and other stationery are not included in tariffs, but can be supplied by special arrangement.
What to pack
During summer, light weight comfortable clothing is recommended. If you are going on safari, make sure you pack a warm jacket for the evenings, as it can get quite chilly on the back of an open vehicle when the sun sets, even in the summer months. Comfortable walking shoes arealso advisable.
The idea at game reserves is to relax and enjoy your time under the African sky, and listen to the calls of the wild all around you! Dinner dress is therefore casual and comfortable.
Don't forget to bring along your camera. A pair of binoculars will also come in handy on game drives and for spotting game from your lodge.
