Our family friendly Kariega Lodge comprises luxurious and spacious log chalets, all en-suite with their own viewing decks and some with private pools.
Here you can enjoy complete privacy, spectacular views and intimate contact with nature. Children of all ages are welcome.

Kariega Lodge comprises luxurious and spacious, fully serviced log chalets, all en-suite with their own viewing decks and some with private pools.
The chalets are fully air-conditioned and are decorated in an ethnic style, are very spacious and enjoy complete privacy and spectacular views. From your deck listen for the cry of the African Fish Eagle or in the comfort of your chalet, revel in the stillness and silence as night falls over Kariega.
A spectacular architectural award-winning pub and restaurant, nestled in indigenous bush with commanding views of the reserve, serves tasty traditional South African cuisine, or guests can enjoy the experience of a meal in the open-air boma.

For those who want to do more than merely relax and enjoy the idyllic surroundings at Kariega, there is plenty to keep you busy in and around this enchanting Reserve. Kariega also offers some unique features that are rarely found in South African Reserves.
Activities included in daily tariff:
Game Drives
Morning and evening game drives in open vehicles with experienced rangers, where you will enjoy wonderful sightings of lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, hippo, giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species. Night drives are also very popular and can be arranged.
River Cruises
During one of your morning game drives, you will enjoy a memorable cruise down the Kariega River on the “Kariega Queen” and enjoy the tranquillity of nature, whilst viewing the wonderful birdlife and game along the river.
Hiking
For hiking enthusiasts, Kariega’s trails are a must. Walk safely amongst more than 25 species of game and wonderful birdlife on the non-dangerous section of the reserve.
Mountain Biking
For energetic guests, mountain bikes are available for your enjoyment. Enjoy the freedom of viewing game whilst taking a ride in the pristine bushveld, for an unforgettable African bush adventure.
Canoeing
Take a leisurely paddle down the Kariega River and spot our nesting Fish Eagles.
Fly-fishing
This is a haven for fly fishermen. Enjoy tranquil and picturesque surroundings whilst fishing for your prize in the well stocked Kariega River.

Swimming
For water-babies or those just wanting to cool off from the hot African sun, dive into the river and revel in the beautiful river pools surrounded by pristine forests. For the less adventurous, relax at the sun-splashed communal pools.

Climate
Summer - October to March
Predominantly dry season with hot days and warm nights. Temperatures range from 25 to 40 degrees centigrade. Rainfall can be experienced during this period with exceptional summer rainfall in the north.
Winter - April to August
This is the rainy season with generally cool days and cold nights. Temperatures range from 5 to 25 degrees centigrade.
Arrival and Departure
Suggested arrival time from 14H00 to 17h00. Check-out is approximately 10h00.
