Chitabe Trails is a very comfortable five-roomed tented camp in an enormous concession that borders the Moremi Game Reserve. The area is situated within a varied habitat of seasonally flooded grasslands, wooded acacia islands and a number of lagoons. The diversity of habitat enables guests to see a wide variety of wildlife.

Accommodation consists of five spacious and luxuriously appointed East African style tents that have en-suite facilities with flush toilets, and a shower and basin with hot and cold running water. Each room also has an outdoor shower, which overlooks the floodplain. Each room is on a raised deck and has an outdoor shower. The room interiors are of the same standard as its sister camp, Chitabe.

There is a dining area, lounge and pool. The camp overlooks a waterhole, where Elephants and plains game often come down to drink during the day. Activities consist of game walks, and day and night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, accompanied by an experienced guide.

Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Reedbuck, Buffalo, Impala, Zebra and Hippo are among the major game attractions of the area. Wild Dogs are resident in the area and can be sighted - depending on the time of the year.

Access into this area is only by aircraft.

Game Drives:

Game Viewing

Chitabe Trails is strictly a game viewing camp ~ no water activities are offered here. We travel out into the field in the morning and afternoon, returning usually after dark where we can often spot the shyer nocturnal animals. The game drive is in the same area as Chitabe's guests, so the game viewing experience is identical. Wildlife seen here includes Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. Wild Dog are also found in the area. Guests should also see Zebra, Reedbuck, Giraffe, Kudu, Impala, and all the plains game. Night drives can be very rewarding, giving rare opportunities to view animals such as Pangolin, Civet Cat, Serval, Porcupine and Aardwolf.

Children

Children over the age of 8 years are welcome

Laundry

Laundry is done on a daily basis and inclusive in the nightly tariff with the exception of "smalls" i.e. underwear, which are not washed due to local customs.

Climate

Botswana's climate is semi-arid. Though it is hot and dry for much of the year, there is a rainy season, which runs through the summer months. Rainfall tends to be erratic, unpredictable and highly regional. Often a heavy downpour may occur in one area while 10 or 15 kilometres away there is no rain at all. Showers are often followed by strong sunshine so that a good deal of the rainfall does not penetrate the ground but is lost to evaporation and transpiration.

Summer (Rainy season)November - March
It usually brings very high temperatures. Cloud coverage and rain can cool things down considerably, although only usually for a short period of time.

Winter (Dry season)May - August
Virtually no rainfall occurs. Days are invariably sunny and cool to warm; however, evening and night temperatures can drop below freezing point in some areas, especially in the southwest.

The in-between periods - April/early May and September/October - still tend to be dry, but the days are cooler than in summer and the nights are warmer than in winter.
