Abu Private Villa

Abu Private Villa has been designed and built as a separate, private unit on the opposite side of the lagoon from Abu Camp. It boasts two large bedrooms with double four poster bed and a twin that can be converted into a double, as well as en suite facilities and a spacious sitting room - all on a raised teak deck beneath shady trees.
Magnificent old trees, including an African Ebony and Sycamore Fig, shade the multi-level teak decks which serve as a gathering point for the guests. Whilst most meals can be enjoyed al fresco, overlooking the lagoon, the hospitality area is dominated by the high peaks of an Afro-Bedouin styled tent that shelters a superbly appointed lounge and dining room. The decor items, redolent of everything that is African, would still look entirely at ease in a New York 5th Avenue apartment and the well-stocked bar and its never-ending supply of ice provide almost anything for which a guest would wish!
The emphasis here is on privacy and luxury in the middle of the African bush. The Private Villa has its own swimming pool and a resident butler. It is designed for a maximum of four people or a small family.
The Private Villa offers game drives, night drives, walks and Mokoro (dug out canoe) safaris, but does not offer any elephant interaction activities.

This suite accommodates 4 guests max (ideal for a family) and is located 5 minutes from Abu Camp across the lagoon.

Extra information
Safaris, Game drives and other activities
Guests at Abu Camp are invited to share with the resident elephant family what is, without doubt, the ultimate elephant education safari. The elephant experiences offer many magical moments including interacting with the resident herd of eight elephants by riding or walking with them, as well as with the herds of wildlife in the area. Abu also offers game drives, night drives, walks and mokoro (dugout canoe) safaris - as well as the most intimate elephant learning experience in Africa.
Game Viewing
Plains game is abundant in the area, from giraffe, zebra, elephant, impala, tsessebe and lechwe to wildebeest, buffalo and warthog. The camp's resident pride of lion should announce their presence at some time during your stay, and it is very likely that you will hear them calling at night.
Activities Available
Year round multi-activity camp:
- Day and night game drives via 2 x open Land Rovers (each vehicle has 6 seats of which 4 are window seats)
- Walking safaris
- Water game viewing via mokoro
- Bird watching
Children
Children of all ages are welcome in the Private Villa, which comes with its own vehicle/guide for activities but excludes elephant activities.
Laundry
Laundry is done on a daily basis and inclusive in the nightly tariff with the exception of "smalls" i.e. underwear, which are not washed due to local customs.
Climate
Botswana's climate is semi-arid. Though it is hot and dry for much of the year, there is a rainy season, which runs through the summer months. Rainfall tends to be erratic, unpredictable and highly regional. Often a heavy downpour may occur in one area while 10 or 15 kilometres away there is no rain at all. Showers are often followed by strong sunshine so that a good deal of the rainfall does not penetrate the ground but is lost to evaporation and transpiration.
Summer (Rainy season)November - March
It usually brings very high temperatures. Cloud coverage and rain can cool things down considerably, although only usually for a short period of time.
Winter (Dry season)May - August
Virtually no rainfall occurs. Days are invariably sunny and cool to warm; however, evening and night temperatures can drop below freezing point in some areas, especially in the southwest.
The in-between periods - April/early May and September/October - still tend to be dry, but the days are cooler than in summer and the nights are warmer than in winter.
What to take
- Light clothing and swimming costumes in summer
- Sun hat, sunglasses and sun block
- Warm clothing and jackets in winter and summer night drives
- Walking shoes
- Cameras and binoculars
