Selinda Camp is situated in the Selinda Wildlife Reserve, a 135 000-hectare (300,000-acre) private wildlife reserve in northern Botswana. The Selinda Reserve is one of the largest reserves in all of Botswana. With a maximum of 28 guests staying in the entire reserve at any one time, the sense of space per guest is readily apparent.

Selinda Camp overlooks the waterway that links the Okavango Delta with the game-rich floodplains of the Linyanti Swamps. The camp's nine spacious and luxurious tents are under thatch with en-suite facilities that include a wonderful and romantic bath; a shower, hot and cold running water and flush loos. From the rooms, guests can look over the expansive floodplains and savannah - and enjoy the view from the cool veranda. The main area is a thatched double-tiered building which incorporates a dining room, the lounge and bar facilities. All local drinks, beers and wines are included in the tariff.

Selinda guests can also enjoy the plunge pool, evenings around the traditional campfire and there is a small curio shop to buy local artefacts and clothing. Daily activities are centred on the area's incredible wildlife. This is one of the best areas in Botswana for predators and their prey and activities include morning, afternoon and night game drives with experienced professional guides in custom-built 4 x 4 Land Cruisers. Short walks from camp accompanied by an armed guide are encouraged.

The Selinda Walking Trail, a superb two-day walk between Tswene and Mokoba Trails Camps in the Linyanti Concession, is a wonderful addition to a stay at either Selinda or Zibalianja camps.

Climate

Botswana's climate is semi-arid. Though it is hot and dry for much of the year, there is a rainy season, which runs through the summer months. Rainfall tends to be erratic, unpredictable and highly regional. Often a heavy downpour may occur in one area while 10 or 15 kilometres away there is no rain at all. Showers are often followed by strong sunshine so that a good deal of the rainfall does not penetrate the ground but is lost to evaporation and transpiration.

Summer (Rainy season)November - March
It usually brings very high temperatures. Cloud coverage and rain can cool things down considerably, although only usually for a short period of time.

Winter (Dry season)May - August
Virtually no rainfall occurs. Days are invariably sunny and cool to warm; however, evening and night temperatures can drop below freezing point in some areas, especially in the southwest.

The in-between periods - April/early May and September/October - still tend to be dry, but the days are cooler than in summer and the nights are warmer than in winter.
