The north eastern area of Botswana is a very popular safari destination. It incorporates the Chobe National Park, Selinda and Linyanti Game Reserves.
The many varied habitats within these parks such as marshes, waterways, woodlands and grasslands create a diverse and varied wildlife.
The Chobe National Park and the neighbouring reserves have a reputation for their great concentration of wildlife. This abundance of wildlife and the true African nature of the region, offers a safari experience of a lifetime.
The Chobe National Park is the second largest national park in Botswana and the area encompasses four distinctly different eco systems from lush plains and dense forests, the Savuti Marsh in the west to the Linyanti Swamps and the hot dry hinterland.
Animals are present during all seasons, and at certain times of the year their numbers can be staggering. If you allow yourself adequate time here, you will probably see nearly all the major animal species. The area is also famous for its predators, particularly its resident lions and spotted hyaena populations.
Linyanti lies in the furthest corner of Chobe National Park and forms a wonderful secluded and uncrowded paradise. This short strip of swampy river frontage is reminiscent of the Okavango's permanent waterways with papyrus-lined lagoons, reed-beds and a towering canopy of trees. The Linyanti Swamp covers an area of almost 900km2, to which follows the river and fills the area between the converging courses of the Kwando and Linyanti rivers.
Game viewing is at its best during the dry season from March to July
